Markus Coombs is senior vice president and deputy chief financial officer of Symetra Financial Corporation and its insurance subsidiaries. Mr. Coombs partners closely with the CFO to drive Symetra’s strategic and financial management agenda, providing oversight of core financial functions, including financial operations, capital strategy and management, strategic and financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, actuarial services, ratings agency relations, and risk management.
Mr. Coombs joined Symetra in July 2026, bringing decades of experience in financial services to his role. Most recently, he was chief financial officer for the Retirement and Individual Life divisions at Prudential Financial, which he joined in 2016.
Previously, Mr. Coombs held other senior financial, risk, and actuarial roles at Prudential, AIG, AXA Equitable and AXA Life UK.
Mr. Coombs is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He earned an honors degree in mathematics from University of Southampton, U.K.
