Andrew Oberdeck is senior vice president, deputy chief legal officer and assistant secretary of Symetra Financial Corporation and its insurance subsidiaries. In this role, he is responsible for assisting the chief legal officer in overseeing the company’s Law and Compliance functions and serving as a liaison to the company’s board of directors.
Prior to stepping into his current role, he provided counsel in support of Symetra’s corporate governance, corporate transactions, reinsurance and Benefits Division products and services.
Mr. Oberdeck joined Symetra in 2012 as a senior counsel. He was named assistant vice president in 2015, vice president in 2018, senior vice president in 2020 and promoted to deputy chief legal officer in 2025. Prior to joining Symetra, he was senior counsel for a national law firm in the area of insurance transactional and regulatory practice.
Mr. Oberdeck is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the Association of Life Insurance Counsel. He graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and earned the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School.
